Personal development, what is it then?

Personal development is a heterogeneous set of practices, belonging to various schools of thought, whose aim is to improve self-knowledge, enhance talents and potentials, improve quality of life, and achieve one's aspirations and dreams.

However, personal development is not a kind of psychotherapy and results from multiple influences. In fact, psychology and philosophy, and often dietetics and sports practice, generally form the basis of the practices of modern personal development practitioners; others also associate it with religious notions or concepts related to esotericism.

The foundations of personal development psychology are to abandon all negative ideas and reformulate them into positive thoughts; it is an optimistic and simplifying ontology that is associated with voluntarism.
